Abstract
I am a Church of God Ordained Bishop and a Pastor, working with the Northeast Hispanic Region. In our organization, we have a Center for Ministerial Care. However, I believe there is a lack of ministerial care contextualized for the Hispanic ministerial community. There are many issues affecting Hispanic ministers, especially those who were born outside the United States. Most Hispanic ministers don’t seek pastoral care on a regular basis. Seeking pastoral care is seen as a sign of weakness and incompetency. They are expected to perform without complaining and to know everything there is to know about ministry life. Ministers and their families are under enormous pressure. Some Hispanic ministers don’t speak the language of this country. There are many laws, regulations, and opportunities ignored or unknown to Hispanic ministers.
This is why I created a support group for Hispanic ministers. I believe we need more awareness regarding pastoral care. Hispanic ministers deserve to be aware of any tools available for them. Pastoral care awareness for Hispanic ministers will help bring more interest on the amazing possibility of learning how to deal with the countless challenges in life for ministers, while at the same time helping my own organization to be more willing to go the extra mile for the well-being of its ministers.
